Aromasin (Exemestane)
Aromasin is the brand name for Exemestane, a steroidal Aromatase Inhibitor (AI). Unlike Arimidex, which belongs to the non-steroidal class, Aromasin is classified as a Type I "Suicidal" Inhibitor.
How It Works: "Suicidal Inhibition"
The term "suicidal" describes its unique mechanism of action.
Irreversible Binding: Aromasin structurally resembles the substrate typically bound by the aromatase enzyme. When it binds to the enzyme, it permanently deactivates and destroys it.
No Rebound: Because the enzyme is destroyed, there is no "estrogen rebound" effect when you stop taking the medication. The body must synthesize new aromatase enzymes to resume estrogen production, which takes time.
IGF-1 Friendly: Unlike other AIs, Aromasin is less likely to negatively impact IGF-1 levels, making it slightly more favorable for muscle growth contexts.

General Dosage Guidelines
Aromasin has a relatively short half-life (~27 hours), but its effect on suppressing estrogen lasts longer due to the permanent destruction of the enzymes. It is best taken after a fatty meal to maximize absorption.
1. Clinical Use (Breast Cancer)
Standard Dose: 25 mg once daily.
Goal: Maximum suppression of estrogen production in postmenopausal women.
2. Estrogen Control (TRT & Cycle Support)
For managing estrogen during testosterone use, doses are typically lower than clinical cancer treatments to avoid crushing estrogen levels completely.
Standard Starting Dose: 12.5 mg (half a pill) every other day (EOD) or on injection days.
High Estrogen Management: 25 mg daily or EOD for short periods if symptoms (like severe bloating or sensitive nipples) are present.
Dose Titration: Users often adjust the frequency rather than the milligram amount. For example, moving from 12.5 mg EOD to 12.5 mg every day if estrogen remains too high.
Important Safety Note
Warning: Because Aromasin permanently disables the aromatase enzyme, it is very easy to "crash" estrogen levels if the dose is too high. Recovering from crashed estrogen on Aromasin takes longer than on Arimidex because the body must manufacture new enzymes from scratch.
Side Effects: Joint pain, lethargy, and potential hair thinning (due to its steroidal nature possessing slight androgenic properties).
