Arimidex (Anastrozole)
Arimidex is the brand name for Anastrozole, a potent non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI). While primarily developed for treating breast cancer in postmenopausal women, it is widely used off-label in hormone replacement therapy (TRT) and performance enhancement contexts.
How It Works
Arimidex works by blocking the Aromatase enzyme.
The Problem: In the male body, excess Testosterone is naturally converted into Estrogen (specifically Estradiol) via the aromatase enzyme.
The Solution: Arimidex inhibits this enzyme, effectively preventing the conversion process.
Result: It lowers circulating estrogen levels. This helps prevent estrogenic side effects such as gynecomastia (development of breast tissue in men) and excessive water retention (moon face).
Unlike some other inhibitors (like Aromasin), Arimidex is a reversible inhibitor. If you stop taking it, the enzyme eventually becomes active again.
General Dosage Guidelines
The dosage for Arimidex is highly sensitive. Unlike growth hormones where "more is often stronger," with Arimidex, taking too much can be detrimental to health (crashing estrogen).
1. Clinical Use (Breast Cancer)
Standard Dose: 1 mg daily.
Goal: To suppress estrogen as much as possible to stop cancer cell growth.
2. Estrogen Control (TRT & Cycle Support)
In the context of Testosterone Replacement Therapy or high-performance cycles, the goal is balance, not elimination. Men need some estrogen for libido, joint health, and brain function.
Reactive Approach (Recommended): Many users only take Arimidex if symptoms appear (e.g., sensitive nipples, bloating).
Proactive Dosage (Common Protocols):
0.5 mg every other day (EOD) or every 3 days.
0.25 mg daily (for those micro-dosing).
High Estrogen Management: If blood work confirms very high Estradiol (E2), a temporary dose of 1 mg might be used, followed by a lower maintenance dose.
